Lord Andy’s Alternative Folk night

Posted on Updated on

My lovely RL partner, Lord Andy, is great pals with our very own Mr Sword Starfall, and between the two of them, they are real folk aficionados. Andy is a musician and has played in folk bands back in the day, as well as working for the popular Brit folk band, Fairport Convention (and we all know that Mr Starfall is a huge Fairport fan), so that all works out very conveniently.

Sword suggested that Andy should put together a playlist of some of his favourite folk tunes, and come in-world to introduce them with a little background trivia.

So this is what they did. Andy collected his playlist, and Sword found the tunes and streamed them for us, providing a really great evening of ‘alternative’ folk. Now I’m by no means a fan of traditional folk music, but Andy’s selection was most enjoyable, and he made a big hit with our regular guests, so I think he will be doing this more often. In fact, the bug has bitten and he is already working on his next set – The Glam and Grot Rock Years of the 70’s πŸ™‚

Here are a few of my favourite tracks from the list, so you can enjoy them yourself, and see the ‘alternative’ side of the folk set (I’ve put the full list at the bottom of the page).

Anouk’s Princess Party

Posted on

So it was my birthday last week….and for some inexplicable reason, and very unlike me, I decided that I was going to have a Princess Party, of all things!

Now those of you who know me will know that I’m not generally a shy, retiring kinda girlie – so with that in mind, I went all out and made myself a totally indulgent party room, complete with purple bouncy castle, unicorns, fountains, rainbows and anything else that took my fancy. I had an absolute blast and even had a purple padded floor.

The invitations were sent out, demanding that all the guests wore their biggest, poofiest, sparkliest princess gowns, including the boys (although I was nice and said that those fellas not quote confident enough to show off their knees in a frock could come as our handsome princes). A big shout out has to therefore go to the very brave and self-assured Mr Gerard Winstanley for donning a particularly charming little number and showing off his legs for the entire evening πŸ™‚Β  Snapshot_003

We had a fabulous turnout and I would like to give a huge “Thank You” to my wonderful DJ’s, Sword and Rhia, who really made the evening with their great music. Rhia even went as far as to sing happy birthday to me, in that knee-wobblingly melty voice of hers that had most of the crowd a bit flushed by the time she had finished.

I rezzed out every bit of food and drink I had and as usual, over-catered by a mile.

Here’s some pics of the crowd in all their full princess glory….

….although the prize for the most insanely huge dress is a toss up between Emma, and her outrageous hair…

…and Kala, whose dress was so massive, she had to be carried in on the back of 4 newbies! I knew that woman would try to out-do me with her dress – grrrrr!Β  *shakes fist*Β  πŸ˜›Snapshot_027

We ended the evening with a gorgeous firework display that really looked amazing as the coloured explosions lit up the rainbows and sparkles of the set.

So once again – I would like to say a massive thank you to Sword and Rhia for DJing for me, for G-man for being the only guy to wear a dress, and to everyone else for being there. I had the BEST time and hope you did too! πŸ˜€

And finally……because I couldn’t decide which dress to wear, I wore them all…so here, because I’m the birthday princess and I can, is a totally gratuitous slide show just of ME and my dresses! πŸ˜€

Sword bids adieu to 2014

Posted on Updated on

The final months of 2014 where a a busy time for Marcel’s and the Caffeine Nights group, .

One of the most important changes was the move from the platform recreating a Parisian street and square (la Place des Cerises…), to the sea level, which gave the whole build a bigger sense of space outside, and wonderful views, while keeping the intimate cosy feel inside that our friends have enjoyed so much as they discovered the bistro.

We arrived by the end of Summer, which still allowed for some nice outdoors activity. fishing_001

But soon Fall was upon us, and fallen leaves suddenly where everywhere (inside the bistro too!) and allowed Anouk to add a moody feel to the whole set, (which reminds me of a perfect tune to watch these pictures by, a song about the passing of time and the changing of seasons by Sandy Denny.

Everyone tried to stay outside for quiet evening chats at Marcel’s terrace as long as there where some warmth left and before the snow settled in.

Eventually Halloween arrived and Marcel’s rose to the occasion with some great sets from our dj’s and yet some more awesome decorations by Anouk!

The Matelots where also active, and in true pioneer fashion sailed out to discover new lands, and were treated by team Captain (G-WINZ) to some wonderful routes, sampling all the seasonal beauty of SL’s winter wonderland. There was also an unusual trip to the Great Wall of China, where we were kindly hosted by Selena Nirvana of the Heartbreakers Entertainment group, and her wonderful Chinese pavilion venue which held the cruise party.

And we finally got to Holiday season. Anouk once again showed her skills in decorating Marcel’s and all of Croissantville, and all ye merry group enjoyed a time of warm friendship inspired by outstanding musical shows which conveyed according to each dj’s style the spirit of the season.
